Canibus, what does it mean to you to be an elite lyricist in today's hip-hop game?
Being a MC man, is definitely a job that, that not everybody can do, you know what I mean? You know...people go out and buy albums just to listen to you voice, to hear what you're sayin, and that's not something everyone can do. I'm just, like, when I'm thinkin about how I came up; I came up just like anybody else comin up in school, you know, I used to daydream a lot in school you know? But, I used to hear certain words in the classroom and write em down. Y'know what I'm sayin, I would put em together in a way that, it just required my love for the art, you know? that's all it required. It didn't require any type of way-out discipline, it's was just something that I wanted to do.
Yeah, sometimes I be sittin in biology, just learnin stuff, whatever, and all of a sudden I'll hear a word like 'flagella'

Yeah man, first time I heard it was in "I Honor U"
Yeah, see what I'm sayin? I got a lot of things in the album that...like, I said the word 'Tetrahedron', you know, what's a tetrahedron? Y'know what I'm sayin? Not a lot of people know that, you know, and I don't think there's a rapper in the whole game who's ever said that word before on record Y'know what I'm sayin? and I'm notorious for that, I'm notorious for saying things that's never been said before on record. And that's what I always wanted to do, nahmean, when I was in high school I used to listen to Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Y'know what I'm sayin, Organized Konfusion, Pharoahe Monch...I used to listen to them say things, and I used to say 'yo, I wanna be that one day, one day I wanna come out and just say things that's never been said before'
Well now you're verbally vicious, telekinetically gifted.

So where do you see hip-hop going in the next 10 years?
That's a decade from now, you know, I can't call it y'know what I'm sayin? I dunno what's gonna be goin on in a decade, but - one thing I do know is that the internet is definitely, you know, that's the new thing goin on right now, and everything that happens is gonna be related to it, you know, everything is gonna become digital y'know what I'm sayin? It's gonna be a digital and electronic world.
So for the artists, there's not gonna be a barrier anymore. Like, you came from Australia, you came to New York, nahmean? That's another continent away, you know, and the only reason that we met up was because of the internet. Otherwise, we would have never met. I definitely wouldn't have been walkin through your hood, and I doubt you'd be walkin through mine.

Yeah, so the internet makes it possible for people from two different worlds to link up. And in the future, everybody gonna be linkin with eachother without even having to travel.

So you know, you out there, then you come over here to New York, you see Manhattan. It's a nut house, and this is just Manhattan, this is not even the boroughs man, y'know what I'm sayin?

But hip-hop man, hip-hop is everything. I enjoy like, there's no way in the world you would have just, out of the blue, been here, without the internet. That's what hip-hop is to me. Hip-hop is being able to communicate with people that don't look like you, people who don't talk like you, you know, but through intellect, you make a link. That's what hip-hop is. You know, it started out; poppin, lockin, y'know what I'm sayin, breakdancin, beatboxin, y'know what I'm sayin, DJ's spinnin turntables, you know. Now, people got machines where they make beats now on MP3's and SP-1200's, y'know what I'm sayin? That's what hip-hop is. Hip-hop is...growth is a must, evolution is inevitable.
