The Past
Welcome to Canibus-Central.com! This is a spot for Canibus News, Audio, Video, Interviews and expressed opinions on Canibus' music and other topics of interest for his fans. To those who are new to here, you'll be suprised to know that the site has been in existence for many years going strong. The URL wasn't always www.Canibus-Central.com either. As early as 1998, a kid from Australia named Tommy Carson had an idea to start an unofficial Canibus page. At the time, there were no other sites on the Internet repping Canibus with the exception of his own official site, www.Canibus.com. Carson humbly began Canibus-Central out of a free-hosting service and a love for Canibus' music, hoping others like himself were out there. He owned and managed The Original CC from 1998 until early 2000. During that time span his page grew and he even recieved an Honorable Nomination at the Online Hip-Hop Awards. Carson never won the award, but he did however claim the privilege of meeting the Canibus man himself at the ceremony.
In late 1999/early 2000 ownership of the website changed hands. Tommy Carson left the site for a short time to "Image Man", but he didn't make many of the changes to the site everybody had planned and he had promised. In the same year of 2000, Punisher (Vishnu Persuad), Crestdemon and Ecin took interest in ownership of the site. They put together an idea of shaping this basic unofficial, fan-made Canibus web page into the site it has grown into today.
Pun, Crest and Ecin eventually convinced "Image Man" to part with ownership of the site. Immediatly, they thought of a new domain name, www.Canibus-Central.com, a new layout and a brand new easy to use message board. From that point on we were ridded of the old "EzBoard days".
From that point Punisher, Ecin and Crestdemon owned and operated Canibus-Central.com. The site had a very good run during those years too. In 2002, Punisher was contacted and hired by Louis Lombard (Canibus' manager) to help Canibus promote "Mic Club: The Curriculum". An unofficial street-team was formed and many members from the site got involved and contributed promotion across North America. This business relationship also lead to Pun getting a direct source of authentic Canibus news.
In late 2003/early 2004, Punisher and Ecin parted ways and Punisher left the site to a new group of individuals. Ownership of Canibus-Central was given to: SH4YD33, Academics, Bry and Hip-Hopper 247.
The Present
Finally, in May 2005 Punisher sold the www.Canibus-Central.com domain name to RE-FLEX because Pun basically wanted to take CC to a next level. In his opinion it wasn't in development that much and things needed to change.
At that time RE-FLEX already owned 3 active hip-hop sites and because of his big love for the game and just to support Canibus, he decided to put in alot of time. First thing RE-FLEX did was update the message board to a newer version and then he completely changed the Canibus-Central mainsite. He did all this a few weeks before the Mind Control album release (June 21, 2005), showing a huge renewal just like Canibus' career at that period.
The Canibus-Central Mixtapes
Over the past 4 years, three collections of work from Canibus-Central recording artists were complied and sold on the site. The works are commonly known as the 'Canibus-Central Mixtapes'. These tapes were released to showcase the talented MC's and Producers that were unique to Canibus-Central at the time.
The first tape (Canibus-Central.com Presents C-4) was released in the summer of 2002 to much positive feedback from the site. Behind the scenes, sales from the tape gave Punisher the much needed cash flow to keep the site up and ad free. It also was the first mixtape ever to be released by an online web site itself.
The second tape (Canibus-Central.com Presents The Overdose) was released on January 2003 and is still enjoyed by many to this day. "The Overdose" was a fine example of artists working in a low budget environment striving for perfection. The tracks were provided by CC's top microphone talent at the time:
Therapist, Phil Harmonic, OMEN, Severe, JC-Rymez, Blitzkreague and The 5th Element. It also featured cameos from Mountain Brothers' Chops and Ruff Ryder Producer Elite.
The third tape (Canibus-Central.com Presents Reloaded) was put together by Ravenous, an active member at that time, and was released in early 2004. Another fine CC collection with several hot tracks on it. Music that was needed to be released.
The Future
So here we are now, Canibus-Central is in it's eight year of existence and is more popular than ever. Much like Canibus' work, the site has grown and progressed impressively to what it is now.
On behalf of the Admins at CC, we would just like to thank the people that have been posting here and held the site down for the last years... This place exists for and because of you people, The Rippers.
Peace
